Not necessarily, although lighter colors show wear less visibly and require less frequent maintenance. All Staron® Solid Surface colors will provide many years of dependable service.
How do I care for Staron® Solid Surfaces on a daily basis?
Just wipe using mild dish‐soap and water. Follow with an ammonia‐based product, such as glass cleaner, for a streak‐free shine.
How do I repair a scratch or cut on my Staron Solid Surface Countertop?
Scratches and cuts can be buffed away with a light duty scrubbing pad and a mild abrasive cleanser.
Will repairing or refinishing Staron® Solid Surfaces reveal a different color that won’t match with the rest of the countertop?

Can you cut directly onto Staron Solid Surfaces?
Cutting directly on any countertop surface is not recommended. We recommend always using a cutting board. Fortunately, Staron Surfaces can be easily repaired if a surface nick or scratch should occur.
While preparing meals, can I place raw vegetables and meats on Staron® Solid Surfaces?
Yes. Because Staron® Solid Surfaces are nonporous, germs and bacteria have nowhere to accumulate. In fact, Staron® Solid Surfaces are one of the few surfaces approved for food preparation areas in restaurants.
Will Staron Solid Surfaces fade?
No. The acrylic resins used in Staron® Solid Surfaces are unaffected by the ultraviolet rays present in natural light, so its color will not fade. However, Staron® Solid Surfaces are not intended for outdoor use because of the potential for extreme weather conditions, pollutants and other contaminants.
Can I place hot pans directly onto Staron Solid Surfaces?
Staron Solid Surfaces are heat‐resistant and will remain stable and undamaged up to 212º F. However, high heat or flame can damage the surface; yet, in most cases, damage can be repaired. To protect the countertop surface, always use a heat pad or trivet. Or think of the stainless steel heat rails near a stove where hot pans can be placed without worry.
Are Staron Solid Surfaces ever used in flooring?
Solid surfaces are not intended to be used as a flooring material, though it has been used as stair treads. Even then, only colors with large particulate patterns are used to mask signs of wear.
What is the advantage of Staron® Solid Surfaces over granite?
We thought you’d never ask. If granite is not sealed regularly, it can become stained,andharbor bacteria, viruses and mold. Seams in granite are also difficult to keep clean.But,Staron® Solid Surfaces are nonporous with smooth, impenetrable seams to prevent unwelcomedgerms and mildew. Staron® Solid Surfaces are also more impact‐resistant than granite; plus, curved and circular designs are easier and less expensive to fabricate usingStaron.
What is the advntage of Staron® Solid Surface over laminates?
Laminates may separate over time if exposed to moisture. Staron® Solid Surfaces are solid and homogenous, impenetrable to moisture. Laminates may also be damaged easily by nicks and stains, and cannot be repaired like Staron.
What is the advantage of Staron® Solid Surface over tile?
Tile has many seams where bacteria, viruses and mold can accumulate. Grout between tiles must be cleaned frequently and often cracks. But, Staron® Solid Surfaces have smooth, impenetrable seams, and are more impact‐resistant than tile.
What should I do if I buff out a scratch or stain with a light duty scrubbing pad and the area is not as glossy as the rest of the countertop?
Visit the Care and Maintenance section for additional information. The basic rule of thumb is to only use a mild abrasive (such as Soft Scrub®) with a blue or green Scotch‐Brite® pad if your Staron surface is installed in a matte finish. If the surface was installed in a high‐gloss finish, stick with an ammonia based glass cleaner or products like 409® ‐ DO NOT use a Scotch‐Brite® pad of any type on a high‐gloss finish.
Can I add a Staron® Solid Surface sink or bowl to my existing Staron® Solid Surface countertop?
It is possible, but depends on the style of sink and the details of the existing installation. Check with your local fabricator.
Do I need to choose a sink and faucet before my Staron countertop is installed?
Yes. Though there are some common fixture sizes, we highly recommend selecting the sink and faucet before your custom countertop is created.
